Props

Yesterday on the 22nd January, myself, Kaan and Kallum went to Bexleyheath to buy some props and items of clothing that we intend to use in our music video for the song Heathens by Daze. We bought a green bomber jacket and a black jumper. This is because this is the outfit Daze will be wearing for the majority of the music video.

Animatic

This is the final animatic for our music video that myself and Kallum drew and Kaan edited on Premiere.

Filming Schedule

This is the filming schedule that myself, Kaan and Kallum have created and will aim to stick to throughout the next month or so. This is obviously subject to a change of plans with a member/s of the group, transport links and the weather since our music video requires cloudy forecasts and if say it was raining heavily that day we will be unable to film and will have to reschedule. This is for the week beginning the 15th January and this is subject to possible changes that might occur.

Location Scouting 2

On Wednesday 13th of December, myself, Kallum and Kaan did our second location scouting session. This time we looked at train stations we will film at. We visited Wembley and North Greenwich and took some pictures of specific shots that will feature in our music video. We feel as if these locations will fit within the other locations, such as tunnels, as well as representing the genre of the song well. Here are some of the shots:

Location Scouting 1

On Monday 11th December, myself, Kaan and Kallum travelled to one of the locations we intend to use in our music video for DAZE. The location is a tunnel with pieces of artwork/graffiti on it. We feel as if this is a good location to use in the video because it is secluded, it has good lighting and helps set the tone of our music video. Here are some pictures we took:

Week Preview 27th November

This week I plan to have drawn some of my digipak templates and ideas as I start to plan to create them and come up with the designs I want it to have.

Also, I plan to finish the last couple of sheets for the storyboard as last week I was unable to as I decided to do some digipak and album cover research instead.

Intertextual References

In our music video, there will be several intertextual references to other music videos. First of all, there will be a reference to the music video of the song 1-800-273-8255. There is a reference to the part in that video where the main protagonist pulls a gun to himself and we are referencing this scene in our video when our main protagonist does the same action. This is because our character and the character in that music video relate to each other in terms of their personality and finding themselves in the world.

Also, another intertextual reference we have made in the video is one from the 1975 music video 'Somebody Else'. The inspiration from this video was a part of the costume that the main protagonist in the video was wearing and we have taken the shoes and the jeans, which are black classic vans and black skinny jeans.

Costume

Here are pictures of the costume my character will be using. We have gone with items of clothing which will match the genre of our song and the locations the music video is shot in.

Roles

Myself, Kallum and Kaan sat down and discussed the roles we will uptake in the production and planning of our music video. Firstly, we have decided that Kallum is going to be the cameraman and the cinematographer. We felt as if this was the best role to assign to Kallum as he feels more comfortable in this role and has previous experience in this role from last year. In addition to this Kaan has been assigned the role of editor and director and much like Kallum, Kaan has previous experience in this role from last year and enjoys editing and does it in his free time. Finally, the role I have been given is the role of choosing and bringing the costume, props and choosing the settings. We felt as if I could choose appropriate locations to shoot as i have a good knowledge of Camden and also I have the appropriate costumes already that our character wears.

New Font

The font we have chosen to use as DAZE's logo is called Hand Shop Typography C30 by Fotnscafe.com as it keeps the line through the Z, which was an integral part of our original design and we feel as if we should keep it, and it is quite an edgy font which represents the genre of music we chose and it also represents our artist's personality.

Changing Font

As a result of our pitch, our original logo received negative feedback so we have decided to change the logo, but we will be keeping the same colour (purple). These are the logos we have chosen to be our final logo. We feel as if all of these logos represent the genre of music we have chosen and the personality of our artist.

Video of Pitch

Here is the video of the pitch myself, Kaan and Kallum delivered to the class.

Music Video Plan

In the lesson, myself and Kallum printed out the lyrics to our song, Heathens, and annotated them and put what shots we will have and what the shots will include. This was a good task as myself and Kallum worked well together and both agreed on all of the shots and types of shots we are including in the video. We got this sheet scanned and now are looking to use this sheet in order to help us start the storyboarding process.

Pitch Feedback

Myself, Kaan and Kallum presented our pitch and idea to our classmates and received very useful feedback which we will try to use and take on board in order to make our artist and brand better.

Postive Feedback;
  • The song choice
  • The artist's background
  • The label
  • Locations made clear
Constructive Feedback;
  • Narrative of video was not made clear
  • Our artist's name was unknown
  • Too young

Artist Background

DAZE

Image result for guy in skinny jeans and vansThe name of our artist is DAZE and his real name has not yet been revealed by the artist. He is 16 years old and is from South East London and still attends secondary school.

He has always had a deep passion for music and has and still does write lyrics at home in his room and during break, lunch and lessons at school. He has always had aspirations to become a musician and write his own music. After he had produced a few songs he put together an EP and go round shops truing to promote his EP and sell it to shops in order to develop his reputation.

Despite pushing his music career forward and trying to sell his music to stores, he is a very shy character and is also quite mysterious, an example of this is the fact he has not revealed his name. He has hardly any friends at school and is very much so trying t0 find his place in the world. His core belief is that nothing is perfect and everyone and everything has its imperfections.
